Provenance

The chain of custody is the product.

Every piece that leaves a JG gallery carries its full history. Sourced or marked unverified — never invented. Append-only chain, cryptographically anchored, auditable by any party with legitimate interest.

Six dimensions

What we document for every piece.

Origin

Direct from the artist’s studio with the artist’s acknowledgment. For deceased artists: estate verification or accepted authority. Never inferred from style or technique.

Chain of custody

Every transfer between owners, every exhibition loan, every authorized handling event recorded as an append-only entry. The chain only grows; it never rewrites.

Chain →

Exhibition history

Which shows, which curators, which spaces. Catalogue references where applicable, digital and physical citations preserved.

Condition reports

At acquisition, at major handling events, available on request anytime. Surface, structure, frame condition documented with date-stamped photography.

Authentication

Verified by the artist for living artists, by estate for deceased, or by accepted authorities. We use attribution-opinion language — never claim what we cannot source.

Certificate

Signed by the gallery directors and registered against the JG provenance ledger. Travels with the work for life. Reissuable on the chain if the original is lost.

Built on SENTYAL

Append-only. Cryptographically anchored.

The provenance program is built on the SENTYAL verification platform. Records are append-only — the chain only grows. Each entry is hashed and chained to the previous, so any tampering breaks the cryptographic seal visibly. Auditable by any party with legitimate interest.

Language discipline

Attribution opinion. Never guarantee.

We never use the words authentication, appraisal, valuation, guarantee, or certified without basis. Instead: attribution opinion · provenance research · indicated market range based on comparable sales · sourced · documented. The language is precise because the stakes — for the collector, for the artist, for the gallery — are real.

Language framework
For collectors

Three things that always travel with the work.

Certificate of Authenticity signed and chain-anchored. Provenance summary covering origin and chain of custody. Condition report from acquisition. The Collector Portal preserves these for the life of the piece — reissuable if anything is ever lost.
